My family loves to Homegate!!!
I know many aren’t familiar with the term so here is the definition…
Homegating-trading the live game and crowds, for the couch and the comfort of your home, without skipping the party!
Basically, instead of going Tailgating you have the party at your home or someone else’s home!
“In 1953, the Ohio legislature designated the Ohio Buckeye, Aesculus glabra, as Ohio’s official state tree. The tree is called the Buckeye because its nuts resemble the shape and color of a deer’s eye (google).” Since I don’t think people actually eat Buckeye, many times when you see them they are a roll of peanut butter with chocolate surrounding it. Although I LOVE Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, I am not a fan of the Buckeye Candy! So instead of making Buckeye’s for the game, I decided to use the flavors in a family snack…and it was a HIT!
We always have Honey Nut Chex Mix Cereal in our home, so instead of eating a bowl of cereal like I always do, I made it into a snack for game day! Most of the ingredients I already had at home; cashews, peanut butter cups and I bought the M&M’s when we were in the party store planning for another event!
I threw it all in a bowl, mixed it together and topped it with Brown Sugar and Peanut Butter. I added the peanut butter to give it a little more of the peanut flavor, however, I think I could’ve left it off. So I leave this option up to you, on whether or not you want more peanut flavor. For me the flavor from the cashews was enough of the “nut flavor” or I may add peanuts in addition to the cashews. But it’s up to you, I would love to see what you do to give it the flavor you are looking for!
This recipe can actually be made with lots of ingredients! Since we are HUGE football fans, I made it special for the football season. However, it can be made for any occasion!
Since this is my first time making Chex Mix, however, I can’t wait to try more flavor combinations and create special recipes for my children! I think my next combination should be inspired by the Fall season!
Have you ever made homemade Chex-Mix before? If so, what did you add to your recipe?

- 1 Cup Cashews (Salted or Unsalted...I used unsalted)
- 4 Cups Mini Reeses Peanut Butter Cups
- 3 Cups M&M's (Party Store had Colors Separated)
- 1/4 Cup Peanut Butter
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix together the Chex-Mix and Cashews.
In a small saucepan, melt together your peanut butter, brown sugar. Pour mixture over cereal and cashews. Let sit until mixture is cool. Once the mixture is cool, add Mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and M&M's.
After everything is mix together to your liking, ENJOY!!!
