How’s your summer going? Ours has been okay, we planned a couple of trips but between COVID Numbers and Emma’s recent surgery, we had to postpone some things! No biggie…we have still been having fun around Ohio!
Last Tuesday we surprised the kids with a Put-In-Bay Day Trip!
If you aren’t familiar with Put-In-Bay, it’s an Ohio village on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. A couple of years ago we went to Kelly’s Island with friends for an overnight trip. This was our first time coming to Put-In-Bay, and we had a great time!
Since Emma was having a procedure on Thursday it was a perfect time to take a day trip and enjoy the company of each other in a different location. On Monday night, we told the kids we were going to Put-In-Bay and we had to get on a boat, we have never been before so they didn’t really know what to expect.
They packed some of their favorite snacks and beloved iPads and they were ready to go the next morning!
Darrick and I decide the night before to pack a cooler with drinks (Water, Gatorade, and sandwiches)! This came in handy because on our way back we were all HUNGRY again!
We arrived at the Miller Ferry Dock around 10:50, and it was pretty packed! We checked in and paid for our car to go on the boat with us. You have the option of riding the Ferry, or you can ride in your car on the boat for a few extra dollars. For our car, it was $38. We weren’t able to ride on the Ferry that was already there because there were already two lanes filled with cars, so we had to wait. Ferry’s are currently running every 30 minutes so we didn’t have to wait long for the next one. It was perfect because we were able to park and get in a quick bathroom trip before getting on the Ferry!
Once on the Ferry, we rolled our windows down and enjoyed the scenery! The ride was about 30 minutes there, and the kids enjoyed it! Honestly, it was probably one of their favorite highlights of the trip! They loved being on the Ferry!
Once we got there, we stopped at E’s Golf Cart to pick up a Golf Cart. Now, you can drive around the island, however, most people use golf carts as their means of transportation. There is also a bus that takes you into the city center, and you must have the cash to pay your fare for the bus. It’s an old school bus that is used as public transportation.
Although I had maps available we actually followed some of the other people that left in their golf carts around the same time!
Our first stop was picking up our Golf Cart at E’s Island Golf Cart. Our golf cart was rented ahead of time online, and I HIGHLY recommend reserving your golf card before coming. The line was LONG! It moved really fast, and there were enough golf carts to go around, however, the process was seamless. I gave my name and they handed me keys and we were off to venture around the island!
Check out Put-in-Bay Official Tourism Bureau to check out all of the Golf Cart companies! There may be a coupon on the site as well (wink, wink)!
One thing that we loved about the golf carts from E’s Golf Carts was that each cart was labeled with a movie title or celebrity name. Our cart was Billy Madison!
But you know if you see your favorite basketball player’s name, Lebron James…you have to get a picture!
After picking up our Golf Cart, we had to find FOOD!
Cameo Pizza Put-In-Bay
Cameo Pizza has been around since 1936, and is a family restaurant! Its located inside Mr. Ed’s Bar on Delaware Ave. The kids shared a cheese pizza, and Darrick and I shared a Cameo Deluxe, I apologize there are no pictures of the pizza. When I say we DEVOURED the pizza-we did just that! It was amazing and definitely hit the spot!
Next on the list was us venturing around the island to The Butterfly House at Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center and Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.
The Butterfly House is a beautiful viewing experience of hundreds of different exotic butterflies in their beautiful atrium filled with plants, fountains, and sculptures. It was VERY warm on the inside because most of the butterfly’s natural habitat isn’t the United States. It was amazing to see the butterflies up close, it was amazing to see the colors up close. A butterfly landed on DJ’s ear but he moved before I could get a picture.
We also stopped by Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, the view was amazing!
“Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial was established to honor those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie, during the War of 1812, and to celebrate the long-lasting peace among Great Britain, Canada, and the U.S. The Memorial, a Doric column, rising 352 feet over Lake Erie is situated 5 miles from the longest undefended border in the world (website).”
Planning a Put-In-Bay Day Trip is perfect for this time of year! There are so many tourist attractions on the island…check here for more options of attractions to visit!
Our last stop before heading back to the Miller Ferry was the Candy Bar! The Candy Bar was a location I saw online that I knew we HAD to stop at before leaving! We each picked out candy, then went around the side of the building and ordered Ice Cream! It was a perfect ending to our Put-In-Bay Day Trip!
