Are you ready for Spring? Given our last year, we all are looking forward Spring-the warmer weather and life getting back to some normalcy! I recently had a conversation with a friend and discussed how she got rid of a lot of stuff during spring break to prep her house for the warmer seasons. Seems like everyone in my house has been sneezing, so over the course of our upcoming long weekend we are going to get our home ready for Spring.
Everyone in my house suffers from Seasonal Allergies, and my husband and the kids also have asthma. When it gets warmer, there are things we do each year to cut down on the amount of allergens we have in our home. One of the things we do is clean to decrease the amount of allergens in the air! This is a pretty big thing for our family, considering allergies and asthma are pretty bad around here!
Check out my tips below on how we get ready for Spring…
Check Indoor to Outdoor Plumbing Valves…make sure pipes aren’t frozen, loose or leaking once the weather changes due to the expansion of seals.
Check AC Unit…the way our townhouse faces, we dont get a good breeze through our house when the windows are open so we unfortunately we have to turn on our air a little early. It is imperative that our unit and ducts are checked EARLY in the season.
Also, by adding diffusers with essential oil blends, this will give your house an awesome scent and certain oil blends help with seasonal allergies and asthma.
`make sure its operating at the correct temperature, check the age of the water heater, and remove any items away from the unit!
Change Filters on Furnace…this helps to prevent dust, dirt, mold spores, soot, bacteria, and decrease allergens from building up in the air inside your home.
Check Window Seals…this decreases the air from going out or coming in, and it helps to protect your home from water damage that could potentially occur during storms.
Clean Vents…if you have younger children like me, you should be checking your vents on a regular basis. Not only are you cleaning and checking them for regular maintenance but if your children are anything like mine you find “surprises” such as toys in our vents from time to time!
Test out Sump Pump…if you have a Sump Pump you want to make sure your sump pump is operating effectively. The Spring season brings lots of rainy weather and you should make sure its draining properly.
With some preparations these items can be added to a list and completed within a long weekend if you have scheduled appointments in advance with a company that does heating, cooling and plumbing!
