One of my biggest goals for myself in trying to be healthier is to be more active! I have challenged myself to be active on a daily basis. For me, this can be taking a daily walk by myself or with my family, walking the dog, and most recently riding my bicycle. At the beginning of the quarantine we were taking walks to help ease our minds with everything going on in the world, but my husband and I soon started challenging ourselves to walk further each day. Some weeks we walked daily, and some weeks we didn’t walk enough. The weather here in Cleveland has also been a contributing factor in our motivation to walk daily!
However, no matter the weather, planning is vital in motivating ourselves and having success in achieving our goals. A couple of days ago I shared my tips on achieving my goals; which was PLANNING! What’s good with planning our daily schedules is that we stick to it, especially if we tell the children what we have planned! Not only is moving a good thing for us but its good for the children too because they have been out of school since March. And let’s be honest, once they see Mommy and Daddy moving more they help to motivate us because they are our WHY!
Tips for Motivating Yourself to become more Active…
Change your Scenery-Personally, it’s hard for me to walk around a track because I get bored easily and I’m more focused on how many laps I’ve done rather than making it enjoyable for myself! This is a personal choice, so to keep myself motivated I like walking around the neighborhood, in the park, or even in the mall (but I’m probably going to spend some money).
Plan ahead of the time-each night we talk about our schedule for the next day. During that time devote specific time for being active the next day. We discuss what the activity will be and how much time we are designating to it.
Results of Being Active Daily…
I never thought I would get back to a point where I would say my body missed being active, but on my off days, I find myself trying to still be active in some way because it feels good! In high school, I played Volleyball and once I stopped playing, I really missed it. However, regular working out has never been my thing.
Since becoming active daily I have noticed that I can move and not get tired right away. I also noticed that I sleep better at night and I’m ready for the day, and my headspace is clearer! The major thing I have noticed with my body is that I am not in pain and stiff in the morning. I truly have learned the importance of feeding your body correctly as well as moving it daily!
