Being a woman is very complex. Our bodies are complex, and one of the first things you learn at an early age is how to take care of yourself; from regular hygiene to sexual health. In my opinion, Women’s Health topics are learned early on, however, as you get older there are more “hands-on” lessons that are learned. Each woman is different and although we may share stories with each other our genetic makeups are totally different.
In college, I learned fast that putting myself in different situations can result with life-changing results and consequences. There were times that I felt I was “playing with fire.” Instead of waiting for the outcome I knew I had to act fast, and this is when I talked to one of my close friends about the Plan B One-Step.
My friend reassured me that Plan B One-Step would help immediately and I would just need to schedule an appointment to go pick one up. Making the appointment and talking to someone is what terrified me! I didn’t want to talk to anyone, I had done quite a bit of research and I just wanted to take the pill and be done with the situation. Finally, after the appointment, I realized it wasn’t as bad as I thought but I still felt STRONGLY that the pill should be over the counter!
What is the Plan B One-Step?
Plan B One-Step emergency contraception is a backup plan that helps prevent pregnancy when taken as directed within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or birth control failure. The sooner it’s taken, the better it works.
How does Plan B One-Step Work?
Plan B works mainly by delaying ovulation – it helps to prevent pregnancy BEFORE it begins. The active ingredient, levonorgestrel, is the same ingredient in many common birth control pills – just at a higher, single dose. It is NOT an abortion pill and it will not affect an existing pregnancy. Taking Plan B One-Step will not impact a woman’s future (or long-term) fertility.
You do not need an ID or prescription to purchase!
Plan B One-Step is located in the Feminine Care, Planning & Protection Aisle. When I picked up the pill there was a coupon located next to the product, however, if you don’t find a coupon I have provided one below!

Thinking back over the years when I needed this pill and I was terrified to go pick one up, I love the fact that it’s now offered over the counter. I believe this will help women take their health matters into their own hands. It will also help women to understand they can be empowered to take their contraception options into their own hands, although this method isn’t to be used as a regular birth control, they will know when they need it they will be able to go pick it up. And possibly pick it up at 24-hour locations!
