Earlier this year I discussed how I wanted this year to be my year of being committed to myself! I am still committed to my family as a wife and mom, however, I needed to take more care of Carissa so I could be the best wife to my husband and mom to my children!
But most of all my goal my goal for the year is to take more time for myself and get back to accomplishing my goals! Usually, I am somewhere bragging about my husband or children, but as I sit here and think about the things that I want to accomplish this year I am off to a pretty good start!
What I Have Done to Work On Myself…
Weight…Okay so let’s just deal with the hardest topic first! I am down 12lbs since the beginning of the year! It’s not bad but I was hoping to have more off by now, but sticking with my eating plan has been hard! Overall, I am more conscious about my food decisions, but its a work in progress! I felt myself going back into my slump about my weight so I just said to myself that you didn’t gain the weight overnight and it’s not going to come off overnight! So be easy on yourself and keep pushing!
I joined a Volleyball league with my sister and its been fun and very interesting! We both played Volleyball from 7th grade through high school, however, we haven’t played real Volleyball since early 2000’s…so let’s just say I have been moving around like an old woman! HA! Last weekend we went to open gym and we had a blast, but our body’s let us know real quick that we aren’t the young girls that used to play in high school. But we aren’t letting that stop us at all…keep pushing (maybe that needs to be my motto for 2018). I must admit that at one point I would’ve never joined the league, but I am so glad I did, sore bones and all!
Back to the Books…Yes, you read that right! Ya Girl is going back to school! So a while back I started working on my Masters in Higher Education but never finished. Life happened and well you know the rest! However, I was sitting in a meeting at work and I was just like you have to do it and stop procrastinating! So I’ve been getting everything set up to get back in school by May (that’s when the next term starts). I was going to start in March, but we are moving at the beginning of March and I didn’t want anything to throw me off course so I pushed my start date back a little.
Fashion…for so long I haven’t wanted to talk about Fashion but because I had put on weight and I just wasn’t happy with the way I looked! What I have realized is sometimes when you are on a “self-journey” you need to treat yourself, and whatever that treat is can make a world of difference.
For me right now my treat is clothing…new clothes always make you feel better and motivated! I was sent two pieces from Lane Bryant’s Livi Active Athleisure Line to motivate me to continue on my weight loss journey! And let me tell you they’re AWESOME!!!
I received the Active Ruffle Sweatshirt with Mesh Yoke and Slim Active Jogger with Zip Pockets !
If you aren’t familiar the Livi Active line is a combination of style and activewear! What I love about it is that you can be stylish while out and about or you can go to the gym in these clothes! The activewear line is light and ohhhhh soooo comfortable! I need to get me another pair of these Joggers ASAP!!! I was trying to wait to wear them together but I made the mistake of wearing the joggers first and I wanted to literally wear them every day because they’re so comfortable and warm!
Writing & Planning…In this new season, I am trying to be better at planning and writing things down to keep better track of all that I have going on and what I am putting in my body. I purchased an Erin Condren Hardbound Planner and a Food Tracker diary, these have been my lifesavers for planning and keeping everything on track. This new planner is the perfect size to carry in my purse! And my food tracker is usually in my work bag!
Spending Time with My Husband and Family…So I know earlier in this post I talked about being the best me, but Im at a point in my life that if my family isn’t good then I am not good! We are a unit, and when something is off we all are off! When we are “on” we are on together! Part of being a better me is also spending more time with my family, disconnecting from the internet world and being present with them. I’m sure you can tell that I have been away from blogging, but honestly it’s because I want to be present more! We have some family goals we are trying to accomplish and we are working hard on it, and some of it is just sitting on the couch and having my babies crawling all over me while I am trying to watch a movie with Darrick, or sitting on the bed and talking with Darrick as if we are on a date! Last year I focused a lot on blogging and although they (my family) were good, I felt like I was missing out on my family right before my eyes…and I simply didn’t like the amount of time I was spending in front of the computer!
After typing out what I have been doing for the first two months of the year, I think I am on track to accomplish a lot this year! And I am working at a good pace, and I need to take the time to sit back and really bask in my success for two months in order to keep pushing forward for the rest of the year!
