Today is our appointment for the Craniofacial Clinic. Last week I talked about how we prepped in advance for the clinic (question and note wise) and today I’m sharing how I prep a personal bag for Emma.
Craniofacial Clinic is when Emma goes to see her team of doctors for her Cleft Lip and Palate. The Clinic meets in the ENT Offices and from there a group of about 8 to 10 doctors (Pediatrician, ENT, Plastic Surgeon, Orthodontics, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Genetics, Pediatric Dentist) see her; they rotate in and out of the room she’s in.
Since its Election Day Emma doesn’t have school, however, this appointment usually falls after school because it’s always in the afternoon. The appointments are either scheduled at 1pm or 2pm, so the doctors have enough time to rotate and the patients have enough time to do their hearing screenings and enough time to meet with each doctor.
All of the appointments vary per child, because no child in the Craniofacial Clinic has the same needs.
Since Emma is a little older I had the idea to pack her a little bookbag to keep her focused because its easy to get “stir-crazy” while sitting in those rooms…especially if they get backed up.
I decided to pack some of her favorite items…
Items included in her Craniofacial Clinic Bag:
Snacks, Babydoll and Brush for her Hair, Magic Ink Pads (My children LOVE these books, and I love them because they dont get marker all over them), Shopkins (because Emma ALWAYS has Shopkins with her), Snacks, PullUps and Wipes…
Other Items I may add later…iPad, Books, and Fruit Snacks (I better go add those before I forget…she goes NOWHERE without fruit snacks)!! Sometimes with the different testing the kids can get overwhelmed and their can be accidents…she to divert from those things I bring some of her favorite items!
These appointments are “hit or miss” for Emma; sometimes they are a breeze and she goes through them with no problem and other times she wants NOTHING to do with any of the doctors! The doctors are understanding of this and usually if they cant see her today they will schedule a private follow up for her at a later date.
