Do you celebrate Grandparents Day?
Let’s start with a little history of this day…Grandparents Day is a secular holiday celebrated in the United States since 1978 and officially recognized in a number of countries on various days of the year, either as one holiday or sometimes as a separate Grandmothers’ Day and Grandfathers’ Day…its a day that one celebrates both paternal and maternal grandparents!
Yesterday was Grandparents Day and my family along with my sisters’ family planned a dinner together with my parents. We had originally planned something a couple of weeks ago, but our plans didn’t work out the way we intended them to and we had to go with our “plan b.” But “Plan B” turned out to be better than the original plan!
I know I can speak for both families in saying how grateful that we are to have parents that step in to help our families run smoothly!
My parents are the only grandparents that Emma and DJ have living, their grandparents on Darrick’s side are deceased. However, even though they are young Darrick talks about them and shows them their pictures often. I cant wait until they are older and have a chance to hear some of the stories that Darrick has shared with me.
After today I believe that celebrating Grandparents Day will become a holiday that we celebrate yearly!
Emma and DJ’s grandparents help us a great deal throughout the week…especially since I am now working they have the kids from the time I go into work until Darrick comes home from work. Some days they are taking Emma to therapy or meeting my husband at therapy for our daughter and just overall helping out wherever they are needed. They have been there helping with hospital stays, surgeries, doctor appointments and various other things.
All my life my family has been a pretty tight bunch, no matter what is going on we have each others back. And although I know this to be the norm, my parents sometimes exceed any expectations that I have for them as grandparents! And I am forever grateful, because I have heard plenty of stories of parents not helping with grandkids. So I know we are abundantly blessed in our family situation!!!
We have truly been able to count on them no matter what the situation has been…they’re are there helping us, and they never ask for anything in return.
