Nighttime has been one of our greatest challenges with Emma. Many see Emma and notice that she was born with a Cleft Lip and Palate, but they don’t understand the special needs that have come along with her having a cleft lip and palate. Its actually very common for Cleft Kids, to have other special needs…once you connect in the cleft community you learn how common it really is! GoodNites is helping us overcome the challenges of bedtime wetting.
Earlier this summer my husband and I decided to go through the process of having Emma tested for Autism, and although the results said she wasn’t autistic…we found out there are some comprehension challenges Emma faces along with her speech delays. We were told by our doctor; kids with speech delays and developmental delays have a harder time being trained in “every-day routines”
Which leads us to one of our biggest challenges…NIGHT TIME TRAINING!!
We have gone back and forth with night training with Emma! For weeks to months she is dry when she wakes up in the morning, however, the last couple of weeks its like she has regressed!
As part of our journey I have incorporated ideas from moms from all over for a reward system! And at night we have incorporated GoodNites! With GoodNites and our award system we have been making great strides….
We are currently using the sticker reward method for Emma since she loves them so much! After she collects 10 stickers on her nighttime chart, we will have a BIG reward!
Here is what you will need…
Any Color Cardstock
Markers
Child’s Favorite Stickers
Scissors (use with an adult)
Write “Child’s Name” Night-Training Rewards…
Our big reward this time is a “No-Sew Blanket” that we will make together for her bed.
I bought the No-Sew Fleece Kit…
However, if you buy some fabric and have enough left around the edges you could do the same project with two pieces of your favorite fabric.
Cut around the edges along the dotted lines, then tie the pieces together!
I actually bought two; one for her and the other for her brother but she will get to make both (he’s too young to participate).
We are currently working on this blanket together…making knots in the fabric help with Emma working on her fine motor skills. It takes a little longer but its good practice!!
At nighttime we now have been using GoodNites that we found at Walmart…the #1 Night Time Protection Brand!
Walmart provides the best solutions for bedwetting management. 1 in 6 kids age 4-12 wet the bed at least once a week after potty training ends. Bedwetting is hard for children because their bladder doesn’t wake their brain in time to use the bathroom. Usually children grow out of it because there is no way to train your brain while you are sleeping.
