As I think back to my summers as a child I can’t help but think about all the days and nights we spent with our grandparents. We would spend the night and the next day we would basically spend it outside playing with the other kids on the street. And when we came home we would go back outside to play with our friends on our own street.
If we weren’t outside at home or at my grandparents house, we would go to Alabama to visit family. In Alabama we didn’t spend a lot of time outside because it was so hot but my uncle would take us to the “country” to visit all of our relatives.
This year with Emma going to preschool a full year I was trying to figure out what she could do for the summer. I was thinking soccer, then camp…then after talking to my husband we decided to let she and DJ have a good ole old school summer!
Rompers, shorts, tank tops, swimsuits, swim-trunks, sunscreen, sandals, sundresses, barefeet…
Playing outside every chance they get, running in open grass, blowing bubbles, going to the movies on SUPER HOT days, Popsicles, barbecues at home and church, Vacation Bible School, doing educational worksheets at home to stay up on what we learned in school before break, trip to the water park and zoo, spending time with family, taking day trips around the city, baseball games, playing in water, sleeping late in the mornings (this is perfect for Mommy) and a few small road trips…
And although I hate that we aren’t getting a chance to hit the beach this year…I’m totally happy in our decision of an Old School Summer!
I’m so glad we decided to go with an Old School Summer…the kids are happy and relaxed! And that is what truly matters rather than bragging rights to how much we spent on camp, or family vacation! It’s also a chance for Emma and DJ to really bond with each other. They are truly playmates, and I love it!!! They’re are BESTFRIENDS!!!
Above is a pic of Emma and DJ wearing clothes from The Patchery! The pockets on Emma’s romper match Dj’s shorts…
