On May 26, 2016 Darrick and I celebrated 4 years of marriage. About a month before our anniversary we started talking about what we wanted to do to celebrate the day, but knew this couldn’t be the year to do it BIG…it just wasn’t in the budget. I told him I would love a day just to spend with him and I would be good, we didn’t have to exchange gifts I just wanted some time alone to be Darrick and Carissa.
When I looked at the calendar I realized that the actual day of our anniversary, Emma had a preschool picnic and once we got home after all the festivities we were all beat. We chilled for the rest of the night then the next day we packed our clothes and headed to a local Marriott Courtyard for A Night Away…
We actually found a deal for the local Marriott Courtyard, which was the hotel that we had our guest stay in during our wedding weekend. Although we stayed in the Marriott in Downtown Cleveland on our wedding night, this hotel holds a special place in our hearts because they helped us a great deal during our wedding weekend! The Marriott Courtyard-Independence, OH has excellent customer service and they are ALWAYS AWESOME to work with.
Darrick and I are pretty much ALWAYS on the go…with work, school, kids, family and church; there is ALWAYS something that has us going. And usually we are together as a family. Every now and again we are able to break away for a date night, but they don’t happen often. So scheduling this night away was an ABSOLUTE MUST for us!
This night was all about RECONNECTING AS A COUPLE and I’m not talking sexually. When you tell people that you spent a night in a hotel that is where their mind automatically goes…but for us it was about being able to kick back and relax as Darrick and Carissa and not Mommy and Daddy. My mother had the kids and I didn’t bother her as much as I usually do, I called before they went to bed and thats all!
We enjoyed the night together! We ordered carry-out from Bonefish Grill, came back to the hotel and enjoyed it together! We also sat and watched the Playoff Game and talked…this actually was one of the best anniversary celebrations EVER! I loved being able to spend time together…doing NOTHING!!!
Although we did this for our anniversary, I would love try to get away like this at least a couple of times a year. Cleveland has some new hotels and since we love to get away and stay in hotels; we should add this to our calendars (and stick to the date)!!! I love spending time with my husband and having a chance to give each other our undivided attention!
