A couple of weeks ago my kids and I traveled to Huntsville, Alabama with my parents for my great Aunt’s funeral. Although the circumstances weren’t the best I was excited to come to Huntsville to see my family. Prior to coming we were looking for a room that would accommodate all of us and we wouldn’t feel on top of each other.
For some reason the place we usually stay in Huntsville wasn’t coming up when we searched for hotels. However, I am glad that it didn’t because we had a chance to stay in new location. We picked the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Downtown Huntsville.
When we arrived I was very pleased with the exterior and interior (hotel lobby) of the hotel, it looked exactly liked the pictures from the website.
One thing that I love with staying at a Marriott is the consistency of the chain. I am traveling with two children and I need to know what I am getting prior to arriving. I’ve stayed in a SpringHill Suites before, however, I learned the difference between their rooms and a regular hotel room is 25% larger.
Leading up to an overnight stay at the hotel with my children there are a few things that I look for before booking a hotel…cleanliness, accessibility, affordability, family-friendly and continental breakfast…and the SpringHill Suites matched all of our criteria!
The room was amazing…it was very comfortable as my daughter climbed right in the bed. My son had enough room to take a couple of laps around the room to burn off his energy from being cooped up in the car for 10 hours.
We reserved the room with two queen sized beds and to me they actually seemed a little larger than a queen. I slept in the bed with my 4 year old and 18 month old and we all had enough room. I was actually able to have two pillows and I propped a pillow up next to my daughter so she would kick the pillow on the floor before falling out of the bed.
The bathroom with the toilet, closet and bathroom with the shower were opposite of the beds. The room in general had a few Asian inspired themes and this is what I got from looking at the sliding doors. I must admit the separation wasn’t a favorite of mine but it was bearable…since we stayed 3 nights. There were times when I wished there was one big bathroom then other times I didn’t mind it because if one person was in the shower the toilet was still available for a child that doesn’t quite understand she may have to wait to go potty!
One of my favorite parts of the room was the desk that had the sliding window. This is my first trip that I had to actually do work while I was out of town, I tried not to bring my computer but I am so glad I did. Once my babies were asleep I was able to sneak to the other side of the room and finish up some work that had deadlines while I was out of town.
I was nervous about needing to work and using Wi-Fi other than my own for my projects. But it worked great and it was uninterrupted which was EXCELLENT in my books!! Now I know that if I need to get work done, and we are staying at SpringHill Suites or a Marriott chain that I can expect great Wi-Fi service.
I also loved the area around the desk because once I was done with my work I was able to sit on the couch and have a few moments to myself.
This area was amazing! In the morning I like to sit and check my emails on my phone and collect my thoughts for the day and I was able to do that with this area. The kids were also able to sit here after I got them dressed and watched a movie on my laptop.
Continental Breakfast was another bonus of the hotel. It was excellent, and the kids enjoyed being able to eat in the room in their pajamas. I went an picked it up and brought it back to the room. We even had breakfast the day that we checked out of the hotel, which was a major bonus because we left at 6am and there was already a hot breakfast ready for the customers to eat! This is a perk that I check for when I am traveling with my children. They wake up ready to eat so its always a plus when I can run downstairs and come back with breakfast for them to eat.
Overall, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the SpringHill Suites in Downtown Huntsville! And I know for a fact that I would stay here again! The staff was excellent, even when I called for extra towels EARLY in the morning the gentleman that brought them showed up with a smile! Very excellent customer service. No matter how many times a day we came into the hotel, we were always greeted with a “welcome” and a smile. Even the night that I came in pretty late from being out with my cousins!
Have you ever stayed at a SpringHill Suites? If not, I highly recommend it for your next hotel stay!!!
