On my first date with my now husband, I remember meeting for dinner (I went to the wrong restaurant…another story for another time), then riding around the city of Cleveland listening to music and talking. So when I saw the Coca-Cola™ “Share A Coke and a Song”…I had to create a surprise date night at home with three of his favorite items…Coca-Cola, Music and Cupcakes!
My husband is a big fan of Coca-Cola Zero™…and the fact that now the Coca-Cola bottles had song lyrics on the side, I knew he would love it. Since we have little ones (4 and 19 months) sometimes it’s hard to break away and have a date night, sometimes you have to create those special dates at home once the kids are asleep!
Creating the Perfect Date Night…
Create a Theme…from food to the events of the night, plan it around a theme. Like wine and cheese night, favorite cuisine night. Really you can create a theme around ANYTHING. This particular date-night was created around Coca-Cola “Share A Coke and a Song”…so I guess our theme was Coca-Cola or music (or both).
I found the “Share A Coke and a Song” Coca-Cola from my local Giant Eagle store. I was in buying a few items when I passed a display before getting in line to checkout! The lyrics on the bottle actually caught my attention. When realized they were song lyrics I knew my husband would love these. But instead of buying them and giving them to him I created an entire at home date night centered around the Coca-Cola bottles.
As I started to plan the date out in my head, I ended up running to the back of the store to see if they carried the glass bottles of Coke Zero (which is the kind he likes). I also found this display but they were out of Coke Zero glass bottles.
If you are unable to find your favorite lyrics…you can download the Shazam App, which is available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android and other devices to get your personalized Coca-Cola Share a Song. How cool is that! I may have to check this out for a gift for my husband!
Incorporate some of your Spouses Favorite Things…for my husband he loves music. He loves listening to it, talking about it, and Im not sure what 39 year old has still has a full on record collection. You can tell when he is really in the mood to zone out to music because the old school record player comes out! But its always a great surprise when you can create a full date with items that you already have at home, rather than spending a bunch of money.
At night from time to time we rotate in getting the kids in bed. So on the night that he had bedtime duty, I prepped earlier that day so I would know what I needed to set up in a quick amount of time!
Make Dinner or Dessert…depending on the details of your date, make a special treat for your spouse. If they have a favorite meal make it for them. My husband loves sweets, so making a special dessert was better for him than dinner. I thought about buying one of his favorite desserts…but what says I love you more than homemade food…
I found a recipe for Coca-Cola Cupcakes…so I bought a few extra Coca-Colas and made Cherry Cola Cupcakes…they were a hit!!! I used box cake mix and store bought frosting but I was able to add cherry flavoring and Coke Zero to both. They came out with a GREAT Cherry Coke Flavor! I even baked the cupcakes with cherries inside of them! DELICIOUS!!!
Music or Movie…we love both BUT since I was going with the theme of music from”Share A Coke and a Song” I decided to just sit around and talk while listening to some of his favorite music. I’m not a music or movie buff but I love sitting and listening to my husbands stories and reminiscing about different times in our lives based on the memories from different songs!
Overall an at home date-night can be done many ways. This particular date for us was centered around music, however, long as you all are enjoying each others company and doing something that you will enjoy…it will be a time well spent.
