I remember talking to Darrick about Emma going to preschool when she was 2 years old. I knew we were planning on keeping her at home until she turned 3 years old but we started talking about our options early. In the middle of the conversation I burst into tears, I couldn’t imagine the thought of someone else taking care of my child during the day…
But time moves fast and Emma has already been in school a year! And she loves it. Mommy gets sad when she goes to school for a half day and she LOVES it!!!
Here are a few tips on things to look for when you are looking for that perfect preschool for your child…

Our search was a little different because Emma is special-needs, so we actually found her school from a suggestion of her old speech therapist. She told us about a program for children that need services such as speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy during the day. And also the program consists of 6 peer model students and 6 students that are on IEP’s.
The process of enrolling her was fairly easy, and they were comfortable in answering all of my questions and making me feel comfortable as well as her. We went in ahead of time to see how she would interact with the other children, and she loved it from the time we took the tour…Emma started in the middle of the year so we started her in the PM class, however this year we changed and now she goes in the AM!
Emma’s school is located in an elementary school so many of her routines are on the same schedule as the local elementary kids. Like Spring Breaks, and Summer Breaks…and that is one thing that I LOVE about the program. It gets the children into the same routines as the elementary kids so when they transition to Kindergarten there is one less thing that they will have to adjust to.
