As I sit here and indulge in this piece of Pecan Pie, I reflect on how good has been to my family and I this Christmas season. After the passing of Darrick II I wasnt really looking forward to Christmas. Since we go to my sisters house Christmas morning, and over my in-laws in the evening we decided last year that we would open presents with our children on Christmas Eve.
The evening was pretty good…it started with Darrick cooking dinner for the family. He made Corned Beef and we had mashed potatoes and asparagus for dinner. It was DELISH!
Thursday morning we went over my sisters house for Christmas Brunch.
Here are pics of the kids from Christmas Morning…Emma had Elf pajamas that we found at Target. Honestly when I picked these out I wasnt too fond of them because they werent frilly enough in my book, but once I got her dressed I was so glad that we picked them! They were adorable!
This is my first year dressing a boy for the holiday. I wanted something that said the traditional “First Christmas” but Daddy stepped in and said that stuff was too “girly” so I found this outfit instead.
We had a mini-photo shoot after Brunch!
I was pretty proud of myself keeping it together on Christmas. However, when I took these pics I pretty much was overcome with emotions. It was hard taking these pics because when I originally planned out these outfits in the store, we bought an extra set for Darrick II. I took them back but the vision of having two boys and a girl is hard one to let go of…
It took a moment to get it together but I guess that is expected with the first holiday after everything!
On the evening of Christmas Day we went over my in-laws house to eat dinner and exchange gifts…
I didnt take many pictures in the afternoon, mainly because I was tired. We had a late night on Christmas Eve, and we were up pretty early Christmas morning…so by the afternoon I was beat!
This year was a very different from our usual. We were blessed in many ways from our families, church members and also my sisters Marriage Life Group members. On Christmas Eve they surprised us by coming over and showering the kids with Christmas gifts of clothes and toys…it was AWESOME! Usually around the holidays Darrick and I are on the “giving” side, we usually participate in the Angel Tree projects at our jobs and we donate when the different ministries adopt family. This year we were the family that people adopted, and even though it was a BLESSING it was hard. However, one day while talking to each other, we said we were very blessed this year!!! And we can’t wait until next year to be able to “pay it forward”…
How was your Holiday?
