With everything going on in life I didn’t get a chance to write a Thanksgiving post. So let me start by wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, I know its late but Thanksgiving is something that should be celebrated daily! And its better late than never…LOL!
This Thanksgiving Day was a little different than usual because we have a child in the hospital. We got up early Thanksgiving morning and went to the hospital to visit Darrick II. I got up early, kissed Emma and Douglass then we headed to the hospital. I must say I am extremely grateful for my children; but this year really put everything in perspective of what is important in life. Darrick II has come such a long way and still has a pretty long way to go but he is a fighter…he’s our little superman!
As you can see I literally jumped up showered and put on some quick clothes and went to see my baby! We had a little kangaroo care (skin-to-skin action) going on! He does so well when we hold him and cuddle!

I just love the NICU projects they do with the babies!
This year I am really thankful for my/our support system! Darrick and I have been through a lot since we started having children, Emma being born with a cleft lip/palate, a miscarriage then being blessed with twins! And now everything that Darrick II is dealing with…I would be lying if I said it hasn’t been hard! But through it all the one thing we can count on is our support system. Before saying grace on Thursday we went around and said what we were thankful for and it got quite emotional with everyone. Besides my immediate family, we have all been through quite a year and been on the prayer line A LOT but through it all God has been so faithful to us all!!
I am also extremely Thankful for my cousin Dawn coming in town for Thanksgiving! She came from Huntsville, Alabama…and its been so long since we have spent one of the major holidays together. I wish her sister Khadija could’ve come too but maybe we can plan for next year a little early and get them all here together! I would love to have the holidays back to how they used to be when we all would spend them together…
My mom cooked an awesome dinner for Thanksgiving this year! Usually Thanksgiving is my holiday to cook but since there is so much going on, she took it this year but I told her I am coming back for it next year! HA! No seriously it was like old times with her cooking the meal…since my sister and I have been married we both have taken a holiday (I have Thanksgiving, and she has Christmas Morning Brunch)…so my mom cooks but not as much as she used to but this year we put her to work! And she did not disappoint…LOL!!
While Im on the subject of my parents…I just want to take the time to say how THANKFUL I am for them. Darrick and I both got a chance tell them how grateful we are for them! They do so much for all of us; they jump in no matter where they are needed. Many people ask us do we need anything or what can I do for you, but with that comes stipulations on what they will do…however, these two jump in no matter what time of day or night, no matter how big or small…and we are extremely grateful for them!
I always joke with my mom that she is the nanny to my kids because when we have to go to the hospital, or doctors appointments she’s always with me helping me out (she told me usually Nanny’s get paid…but this is an exception since she’s the grandma) LOL…but really if she was the Nanny she is the best you could ask for! I don’t have to worry about my children when they are in her care…she and my father are the ultimate team and have set a great example of how a husband/wife team should work!
Im also VERY thankful for EVERYONE who has stepped in and helped Darrick and I during this process. Many have sent donations to help with some of the extra expenses of having a child in the hospital. Things have added up quickly, and I have been applying for the different programs to help us during this process (we were approved for one on Wednesday…which is a blessing)…but lots of the small things dont factor into those programs. Like parking or food cost when we are at the hospital all day! But so many have stepped in and it has been a BLESSING! Not to mention those who have donated to the Go Fund Me page my sister has set up in honor of Darrick II! We even had a cheesecake and a BIG bag of candy sent to us…and while you may think its just a cheesecake or candy; it was the thought behind it…it was sent with love and it was the BOMB!!! HA! But seriously I am extremely thankful/grateful for all the gestures we have received during this time! I really can’t even put it in words…
And the prayers (is there even a way to say how THANKFUL we are for prayers)! We have so many people praying for us, praying for our children, praying for our family…its truly amazing! There have been times when it has been hard for me to put my prayers in words, but I know that everyone has been interceding on our behalf! People have sent all of us all kinds of messages about how they are praying for us. We have family that said they get up every morning and pray for our family on the phone… I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and I would just like to say THANK YOU!!!
So needless to say this years’ list of things to be thankful for are a lot different from last year. But I’m not complaining because I know through all of this God has a plan for all of us! And for those who have helped us along the way…there are ton of blessings that have come from this situation and more on the way!
How was your Thanksgiving? What are you extremely thankful for this year?
