{Review} Tacky Box
When I received the Tacky Box to review I thought about how this was a great idea! Emma is a little young for the Tacky Box, however, I recruited my niece to help me review the book and box.
Even though Emma is too young, its never to early for Mommy and Daddy to get their language in check before she really starts repeating us. I wont say our language is horrible but from time to time some of those “tacky” words slip out! So as I talked to my niece about the book and the words, while she was decorating the box…it gave me a chance to see what words she is learning as a 7 years old in school.
I had my niece Solana decorate the box for the both of them in hopes that she will keep it to pass down to Emma. Once my sister returned to pick my niece up she was surprised at the lesson that my niece learned in working with the “Tacky Box”
She wrote down a few words and others we talked about but didn’t write them down. The “Tacky Box” was created by Dallas mother Chris Kent Phelps. Phelps was caught off guard when her then five-year-old daughter was talking about her day at kindergarten and nonchalantly tossed out a four-letter word…used in the correct context.
The box came into creation after Phelps explained to her daughter what the word meant, and how it was tacky to use such words. She gave her a box and called it the “Tacky Box” and encouraged her to write down that four-letter word, remove it from her heart and mind, and lock it up in the box, choosing to never again use the word. She decorated her box and continued to put every tacky word into the box that she, primarily, heard others using. And, the kicker was, she never repeated a single one of them.
I will make sure once my munchkin is of age to understand more about Tacky Words…I will make sure she understands the importance of not using these words! And I will also make sure that Mommy and Daddy aren’t using Tacky Words either!!!
