I feel like I have truly been spinning my wheels…life got busy all of sudden and I haven’t had time to do anything!
This is what has been going on…
Educational Time with Emma
Emma and I have been working more on educational time at home. We have been reading and doing projects that I have found on Pinterest! Even though I don’t think her skills are far behind her age group I still want to continue working with her at home so we can get them to where they need to be!
I have even scheduled her educational time…which is everyday between 2pm-3pm…I have noticed a change in her coloring and being able to focus more.
Speech Therapy…
Last week was our first speech therapy session since the end of last year. We didn’t get a chance to go to the first one scheduled for this year because of the weather (the whole polar vortex…yeah I wasn’t going out in that)! Emma did VERY well…she didn’t give her therapist a hard time, and she participated like a big girl! Part of her speech therapy is learning how to communicate altogether, since her speech isn’t well we are learning a few signs to help. And I am amazed at how well Emma is learning to sign! She knows how to sign “milk” “eat” and “more”…she is also working on saying more words that we can understand. While we were reading together she said “mouse” because there was a mouse in our story.
YAY for hitting milestones and making strides in Speech!!!
My Mom Retired…
I didn’t get many pictures because my sister and I sat up front with my mom during the party. So I only got a few pictures of the set up!
My mom Retired from her job at NASA as the Director of Diversity and Equal Opportunity. I am so happy for her and she had an AMAZING retirement party! The employees of her department put the party together…and they did an AWESOME job! Everyone from the center was invited so many of the people she has worked with over the years came in to say a few words. I think highly of my mom because…she’s my mom! But to listen to people talk about her and how she has been a blessing to them…was just simply amazing! People talked about how she made them step out of their comfort zone, how she stood up for people who were being harassed, and how they saw her grow over her time at NASA. She started as a college student (well really right out of high school in a co-op program) as a secretary…and worked her way up to Senior Management!
Im so proud of her not only as my mom but as a woman! Although family has always come first in her life, she still had a chance to get in there a put in the hard work to have a career as well. She really showed not only my sister and I, but other women that if you put your mind to something you can achieve anything! There were several people that stood up and said if she hadn’t been there to be that stern voice behind them, they would not be where they are in their career today!
I must admit I am going to miss her employees in her department…they are like family! I know I will see them from time to time, but it was bittersweet for me too! LOL!
School is on Hold…
I took a two month break from school because we have a lot going on. This year is the year of change for us. I honestly felt that I needed to focus on my family, we have major changes going on with Darrick’s job, and figuring everything out for that I felt that during this transition I needed to be focused on us. And I felt that I just haven’t been focused since the miscarriage. I guess I just needed a mental break, time to really clear my head before all these changes occur with my family.
How has your year started?
