Yesterday morning I stayed home from church because Emma wasn’t feeling well. While at home I realized that I had not planned anything to eat for dinner! I usually try to plan meals out so I can cook them Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. I knew Sunday night was out because we had a second service at church and I had homework when we got back.
I thought about cooking Chili last week because the real Fall weather has set in and the hubs loves Chili. I started looking around to see what I had and if I needed to buy anything to go in the Chili. I wasn’t really trying to go to the grocery store…you know how that is!
So I started with…
Ground Turkey (Cooked this first)
Then threw it in the Crock Pot
Then I found a pack of McCormick Chili Seasoning Mix in my Pantry…
Two Cans of Corn
One Can of Black Beans
Small Can of Tomato Paste
Can of Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce (Original)
Then I knew I needed Tomatoes but Im not really big on the BIG stewed ones…so I tried
Rotel Mexican Festival Diced Tomatoes with Lime Juice & Cilantro
(I keep this in the pantry…this flavor and the original)
I added a couple of shakes of Chili Powder
(not too much because I didnt want it SUPER spicy…just a kick)
I let it cook for about 4 hours on low in the Crockpot and by the time we got home from church…chili was ready!!! WHOOP WHOOP!!!
To me Chili is never really pretty…but here is the finished product! I sprinkled a little mexican cheese blend on the top…and Voila Dinner is Served!!!
So Darrick and I aren’t really big bean eaters…so I only added black beans, but many chili recipes have way more beans in them! I know my sister loves beans so she tends to put in 2-4 different kinds! I wasn’t really into cooking prior to getting married so I think I am doing pretty good, considering a few years ago I would’ve had to call my mom or sister to get step-by-step directions!
