For the past month we have been going to The Little Gym in my neighborhood!!!
Many don’t know but being born with a Cleft Lip/Palate often times causes other issues with the child’s development. Luckily for Emma the only thing that we have noticed is a slight delay in some of her milestones. She hits them but in her own time frame, which isn’t usually on the time frame as the doctors. A few months after Emma was born she started going to Occupational Therapy. She goes bi-weekly, and she and her therapist work on different developmental skills. She gives us homework and we work on those skills until the next time we go see her.
When Emma was approaching 17 months, and hadn’t started walking I knew it was time to do more therapy. Emma will walk along furniture and pull up…she just doesn’t have the confidence to let go and give it a try, but since we started going I have noticed that she is willing to try to do more things independently! We asked about physical therapy, and they said not at this time.
So I took matters into my own hands…
I signed her up for The Little Gym in the area! And it has been a blessing! She gets to interact with other children and gets to work on her motor skills and development.
This picture (below) is a pic of Emma and the Owner turning a flip.
We go to Mommy and Me class on Thursday mornings! The pictures are from her and the different activities that she does throughout the class!!
She is supposed to be walking on the balance beam…but she would rather walk next to it! So we go with it! The motto is to let them explore! So at first I was nervous about her getting away but now I let her go for it! It’s truly a workout for her and myself! I wear Yoga pants because I am exploring parts of my body that I haven’t explored in a while! LOL!!
How to you work on your child’s development? Do you do anything special?
