So if there is one thing that I learned from my mom (with raising us) and my sister (raising her own children) is that children need structure! They just operate better if they’re on a schedule. This summer Emma and I were always on the go…and bedtime was ALL OVER the place! Prior to Summer I had Emma on a sleep schedule of naptime (she would go down for a nap 12-12:30pm), and bedtime (going to sleep between 8-9pm). For the last week I have been able to get Emma back on her sleep schedule. I feel like if I keep her on somewhat of a school schedule, it will help her and I throughout the day!
Now I know she is young, but when Emma doesn’t get a nap, or she goes to bed SUPER late she is usually another child the next day. She is not the Emma we know…its like another child has come and taken over her body!
Currently, Emma is not in daycare and she probably wont be for a while! We do go to the Little Gym, once a week and that gives her interaction with other children. And I usually read a book or two to Emma during the day, but I would like to get that on a schedule as well because we are all over the place! HA!
I would like to schedule a time to do educational activities!
Things we currently do during the day…
-Read Books
-Teach her to Color
-Watch Sesame Street & Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
-Play together and Talk
I would like to incorporate more educational things like the flashcards (ABC and 123) I picked up while in the Dollar Store. I also want to get more actual coloring books for Emma to work with her. I know she is young, but this helps in her development. Many don’t know that kids born with Cleft Lip/Palate tend to have developmental delays and I notice the more I work with her at home it helps her when she goes to see her doctors! I love when I go in the doctors and they are noticing that her skills are getting better and its coming from home!!! I plan to hit a couple of story-times with her during the fall as well. And since I will be going back to Bible Study on Tuesday mornings I may try her out in the kids care while I’m in the Midday Moms class.
What educational activities do you do with your little one/ones at home?
