When I saw the commercial for the Progresso Recipe Starters I was very anxious to try them! I bought two of the Fire Roasted Tomato flavors and I said I would try the others a little later. Once I got them I went to the website to see what I could make, I found a couple of recipes-but I kept coming across Chicken Parmesan. I wasn’t really in the mood so I went on Pinterest because they HAD to have more recipes because its Pinterest! Well no…I kept coming up with the same thing…
Fast forward to yesterday, I had a taste for Spaghetti. I cooked everything and only used one jar of tomato sauce (don’t judge me I don’t make my own sauce)! So I only needed about a half jar more, but I didn’t want to open the other jar and risk it going bad so I thought to use my recipe starter! Well good thing I used it in Spaghetti because the consistency was NOTHING like what I imaged! I would’ve been ticked if I used this for Chicken Parmesan because it was soupy! It was like I poured a can of soup in my pasta…good thing it didn’t really matter but I’m glad that I didn’t mess up another dish because of soupy sauce! This so wasn’t what I expected! Now don’t get me wrong I would use it again but just not in pasta…maybe I would use it for an Italian Soup or something. The texture is like broth, so if you are looking for something with more paste its not it.
Since this is a “starter” maybe I misunderstood that this was to help start like a soup or sauce but it clearly is not to help for the purposes I used it for! Way too much like soup to aid as more sauce on my spaghetti. I’m not ruling them out all together, the flavor was good, I was just expecting something with a thicker texture.
Have you tried the Progresso Recipe Starters?
