This past Saturday was my father’s retirement party!
At the party I was a little emotional (as always), really I got worked up listening to people talk about my father! I mean I think the world of this man, and to sit and listen to others who think the same thing got me all choked up! When I really sat and thought about all the things people said, what really stood out was that his old supervisor called him “coach”…this was because he was the coach for the jobs’ softball team. This stood out to me because that was a perfect title for him…he is always “coaching” someone in at home, at work, at church. He is always pushing people to do their best and to step outside of their comfort zone! And once he is with you, if he is coaching you, you dont have to worry he will be right there with you as he coaches you through whatever it is you are doing. At church he is the Deacon that takes the time with the youth. He helps them in learning the protocol for church and how to run service, and honestly, this takes a lot of patience (believe me I know first hand)! Sunday when I walked in church (a little late) there was a young man asking him, “what do I do now” he had just finished learning how to do devotion…and thats the thing with my father he will take you under his “wing”…I had only seen that young man a few times in church but already Daddy has him working in church and asking whats next!!!
Another part of the party that stood out to me is how uncomfortable he was with everyone singing his praises! My father is a servant…he serves in church and is always lending a helping hand to someone! So to sit back and be the center of attention was hard for him. And although he is usually front and center with a lot of things, it was uncomfortable for everyone to focus on him.
So Daddy…basically these are all the things I would’ve said had I been able to talk and not so dang on emotional about everything! HA!
I cant wait to see what God has in store for you in this next chapter in your life!
Happy Retirement Daddy!
