I was on the phone with one of my friends, who happens to be married also and we were talking about how your friends change during certain stages in your life! I noticed when college ended friends changed, when Darrick and I got together, there was a change in seasons with friends, now that we are married there have been changes, and even with having a baby friends have changed. And although there is no drama behind the change in the friendships, its just you change to those with whom you have things in common with. For instance, many people I talked to in high school I no longer talk to now because it was a season, and those people that are supposed to be there longer than a season are still there!
When you get married, or are getting ready to get married-people give you all kinds of advice to make your marriage work! One of the pieces of advice that was given to me, as the friend I was having this conversation with is “when you get married, you need to hang out with married women-you should surround yourself with women that have the same goals, or that are in the same phase of life”…what do you think about that?
Can you be married and hang out with all single women, and their lifestyle not influence you?
Is the only way to stay on the right track is by surrounding yourself with women that are married?
Now when I ask these questions I don’t mean, once life makes a few changes that you are supposed to drop your friends who aren’t in the same stage of life as you…but what I mean is do you continue to do the things you were doing prior to being married. So if you “kicked it” Thursday through Sunday when you were single, and you have continued to do that at times while you were in a relationship…when you get married do you continue to do those same things? Or do you chill out, like maybe only go out on Saturday nights with your girlfriends?
Does it come to a point when people see you out with all your single friends, that they think you are out looking for the same thing as the ladies you are with?
What are your thoughts on this topic???
